JCRTA ByLaws
Article I: Name
The name of this organization shhall be the Jackson County Retired Teachers' Association.
Article II: Purpose
To cooperate with the IRTA and AARP by promoting membership, legislation, and progress; to further good fellowship and welfare among retired teachers; and to further the cause of education.
Article III: Membership and Dues
Membership shall include retired, certified staff. Pre-retirement membership includes certified staff within five years of retirement. Persons interested in education may hold associate membership (without voting privileges) with approval of the Executive Committee. The surviving spouse of an annuitant may become an active member with full privileges. The unit dues shall be determined by the Executive Board and membership.
Article IV: Officers
The elective officers shall consist of the president, president elect, secretary, and treasurer. Their term of office shall be for two years. Election shall be at the July meeting and installation at the October meeting in odd numbered years. New officers and committees shall assume their duties January of even years.
Article V: Finances
The fiscal year of the Association is January 1 to December 31. The financial records shall be audited after January 1.
Article VI: Meetings
Regular meetings shall be held in March, May, July, and October. Executive Board meetings shall precede each unit meeting. Place and time of the meetings shall be chosen by the Executive Committee. A majority of the members present shall constitute a majority.
Article VII: Committees
The President shall appoint the following standing committees: By-Laws, Audit and Finance, Membership, Program, Public Relations. Transportation, IRTA Foundation Services, Necrology, Historian, Legislative, Community Participation, Health Information and Protective Services, and Nomination. Special Committees may be appointed at the discretion of the President.
Article VIII: Executive Board
The executive Board shall consist of all the elected officers, past president, and chairpersons of all standing committees.
Article IX: Death of a Member
In memory of deceased members, a contribution shall be made during that calendar year to the IRTA Foundation. In addition, remembrances may be contributed by individuals to honor members and/or prior members.
Article X: Parliamentary Authority
The current edition of Roberts' Rule of Order Newly Revised shall govern all proceedings.
Article XI: Amendments
These By-Laws may be amended by two-thirds of those present and voting, due notice having been given to all members.
Article XII: Dissolution
All liabilities and obligations of the organization shall be paid. Any remaining assets shall be distributed as designated by the Executive Board and shall not be to the benefit of any individual member.
